Creating the Perfect Playroom: A Blend of Beauty and Functionality
Guys… we know playrooms are meant to be lived in. They are meant to get crazy. They are meant to be a playful retreat for our littles. We know all of this as mums, yet playrooms still cause us anxiety! Why???? Because the disorder is too much for our brains! We got a lot of information twirling in our brains constantly, and when we see chaos, it is basically the straw that breaks the freaking camels back! So maybe it’s time to find some order that works for you, and makes you feel good about any room in your home!
This playroom was the perfect definition of LIVED IN! Our clients had one kiddo at this time + this gal loved being in here! But because they had no system set in place, the kiddo started also feel overwhelmed by the space.
Of course, having freedom to have fun in a space is great! But when you can’t find your favorite toy or you want to color but the crayons are in disarray, it can feel chaotic (even to a child) to have fun.
We knew getting this playroom in order was going to be a lot of work, but we were ready to get this space working super well for THE WHOLE FAMILY!
A space where the daughter could have fun and the parents could easily pick up the space at the end of the day.
Our TOP priorities in this space were:
Find a spot for books
Give a better layout to the entire room
Give a functional + maintainable system to a variety of toys
And create a toy rotation system so they could switch out toys from time to time
A BIG PART of this space was BOOKS! They had A LOT! So we wanted to use the bookshelves they had already purchased for most of the books and then we installed book ledges for some other books to use the VERTICAL space AKA the walls. This gave color to the space + allowed their daughter to see her favorite books on display! KIDS LOVE THESE LEDGES! I think it just makes them really happy to what they have very clearly.
We also brought in a mixture of clear bins and baskets to store toys and puzzles away. Having a mixture of bins and baskets may seem unnecessary to some but there really is a method to the madness! When you bring in multiple textures as well as different transparencies of bins, your eyes move around the space instead of just seeing it all at once. It gives curiosity to the child, wondering “hmmmm what’s in this bin?!” And it brings simplicity to the parent not having to see all toys all the time! So it’s really a win win!
Organizing playrooms is honestly the BEST! They are our favorite space to work in because it’s full of live and adventure for the little ones. When they get organized…. of course they’re gonna get messy again! But when you have a system in place (ESPECIALLY WITH LABELS) anyone can pick up + put the space together again. This is the best feeling! And you deserve to have that!
