Open up your blinds!!! Or Curtains.
This may not be an organizing tip, but it's a tip to help get you motivated!! A dark, dingy space isn't very encouraging especially when you feel overwhelmed by your mess.
Let that beautiful light in + breathe! Watch the rays cascade into your home + feel excited by all the possibilities you can do to make your home more peaceful + functional! For fun, open up your blinds today, take a picture + tag us in your favorite photo that brings you encouragement to start the tidying process!
If you’re going to organize one thing, make it your laundry system!!!!
We can't tell you how many times we have seen homes looking pretty dang good, but open up a closet.... then there it is... clothes upon clothes!! And let's be honest, we have been there ourselves.
It's easy to throw clothes around, looking for that one shirt you KNOW you have somewhere. And let's face it, who wants to fold clothes after a long day of work, or heck, even on your day off???
My encouragement to you, is find a time in the week that you can do laundry + PUT THEM BACK in a beautiful, simple way.
My time (Meg) is Fridays. I choose one day for laundry + this has helped me so much!!
Once a load is done, I take them into the living room and sit down on my rug + fold them all (while my son enjoys a Netflix show ). I've adapted the #mariekondo fold for EVERYTHING + it has changed the game for me. ps. I do not have a big laundry room so that's why I have to get creative!
I was a person who would literally shove clothes in a drawer (out of sight, out of mind right??) but now I find taking time to sit and fold each piece is THERAPEUTIC.
AND in one day, my clothes are cleaned + put back in their spots and I'm free to enjoy a clutter free home knowing everything is done!!
DON’T WAIT for the perfect time or situation to get organized!!
We have worked with several people that are hesitant to start the tidying process. They want their house to look better, or they want newer furniture, or they want alllll the best organizing accessories (I mean who doesn't!?).
But the truth is: Don't wait for those perfect times to get your spaces tidy.
These are my (Meg) personal drawers. We have this amazing Ikea bed that has 4 HUGE drawers that way we don't take up space with a dresser or chest of drawers. BUT!! It is very hard for them to stay neat & organized. My dream + goal with these drawers is to make custom dividers that can slide to different sizes. Sure it would be "easier" to wait for these dividers to be installed, but I absolutely do not want to wait for my clothes to be in order!! So as I budget for this "dream project", I have neatly #mariekondo folded ALL of my clothes to fit in these drawers (besides bulky sweaters).
These drawers may get a little loosey goosey over the weeks but at least I have a system set in place! And really, that's what it's all about!!
